Blog Post | A place of my own
For many years I woke up at 5 am to paint in a small basement bedroom under the light of a clamp lamp. I was a mother to babies and this was my personal “me” time. It was my creative outlet after leaving a fast paced career as a commercial interior designer. I would quietly sneak down stairs, push the button on the Keurig and get lost in whatever pet commission I was working on at the time. I occasionally would look around the room and think that if I worked hard enough, maybe some day I would get to have a “real” art studio.
This past year I was fortunate to have had a shared studio space in the Casket Arts Building in the NE Minneapolis Arts District. The building was originally used to build caskets before housing art studios. The environment is quiet, with natural materials of rough cut wood floors and ceilings, brick walls and abundant “natural” light.
On December 1st , my long time dream came true. A single occupant studio opened up in my building. As soon as the keys were in my hands I went to work to start making it my own. It’s still a work in progress but I couldn't be happier.
I am available by appointment weekdays and weekends. I am open every 1st Thursday of each month from 5:00 - 9:00. Please contact me to make an appointment. Casket Arts Building #317
